AWOL!
Miss me?
As per usual, no real excuses apart from life, kids, work ..........
Actually this isn't too bad - you should see all the e-mails in my inbox waiting to be replied to. Sorry to those waiting for a personal e-mail from me!
The older the children get, the more activities they do and the less time we have after hours. Weekends are no longer relaxing times for us, instead its a get-up-and go-rush of ballet and footy.
Thank goodness for school holidays (at least I got one thing right when picking my profession)! I cannot tell you the relief I feel, knowing that in the mornings, I don't have to get up and go anywhere! No rushing around trying to get 3 kids and myself dressed and out the door. Then dropping Ross at a friend, then dropping Maddy and Gethin at daycare and then getting myself to school! And that's all before 8am. I could go on and on about this as its a rather sensitive issue with me!!! But I won't!
Right now its 9am and I'm sitting in bed with my cup of coffee, writing this while the kids play happily! Aaaaah heaven! It probably won't last (the happily playing part that is) but for now its good.
What have we been up to in the wonderful month of June?
Ross played his very first footy tournament. It was really exciting to watch him get into the game. We also discovered that Paul and I are those annoying parents who stand on the sidelines shouting - good shouting if that makes it any better! Ross' little team did very well and won nearly all their matches.

Poor Gethin has also had to bear the brunt of Ross' sporting skills lately. Couldn't resist a quick pic before we cleaned him up.

Maddy had her watching week at dancing last week. Unfortunately the pics didn't come out too well as its so dark in there.

Doesn't she look sweet in this picture! I had to take a picture of her looking so cute in her winter coat as this was a very rare occasion.

You see, we have some rather serious dressing dilemmas in our house. Boys are a dream when it comes to dressing them - you pick their clothes and they wear them! But not our Maddy! Oh no! She started out being a very independent 2 year old who would dress herself and with that independence came the problem - she now believes she can actually pick her clothes, which on most days is a pair of shorts or summer skirt and a t-shirt regardless of the outside temperature! If she can see the sun, then in her eyes its going to be sweltering hot! No amount of bribing or "so and so wears trousers like this" would help. Then after weeks of fighting and trying to get her to wear trousers or at least tights with her skirts, we have now regressed seriously!
The latest thing is that she won't dress herself at all! How did that happen? This is not good when you're in the morning rush and you have a quite capable nearly 4 yr old refusing to get dressed! So we have had some dressing training this holiday which involves a lot of crying (and shouting)and me refusing to dress her! Quite fun really - NOT!!!
Last but not least, I have some good news to share. I have been offered a part time (3 days) teaching contract for the next term at Campbell Primary School where I do most of my relief teaching. This will more than likely be extended to the end of the year which is really good for me. I feel like I'm finally being rewarded for all my hard work and will also make the daycare issues for Maddy and Gethin a lot easier!
Ok, the washing machine is calling so I shall be off and hopefully I'll be back soon. Don't hold your breath! xxx

Life is NOT always rosie!!!
I would love to pretend that I live the perfect life with my perfect family in a perfect world. Sometimes when I read back on my blog thats what it seems like - all happy and joyful! Thats good but its not a true reflection of reality and I wouldn't like to give a false misrepresentation of our life. Ever had one of those days when nothing goes according to plan? Well, I've had one of those weeks!
I was going to sit and recount my whole woeful story but then I thought about it, and it all started to sound rather insignificant - stomach bug spoiling our weekend away, more sick kids, work, childcare issues, immunisations, housework blah blah blah blah blah........................................................
Ok, so it wasn't earth-shatteringly terrible but it was a little bit rubbish.
Enough of the pity party - rolls eyes.
In the last month and a bit we have ......
Celebrated 3 birthdays

1 Mother's Day (albeit a week late)

Watched Ross play footy very early every Sunday morning

And been to Busselton for the weekend

We have pets!
On Wednesdays, I normally take Maddy and Gethin to the story and craft time at our local library. They just love the songs and stories and Maddy is really into the craft activities that they do afterwards. Anyway, this week the lady was asking all the children what pets they had at home. It was so sad to sit there watching poor Maddy shake her head everytime the lady listed a pet - dog, cat, bunny, hamster, bird, mouse, fish ............
SO, I decided that it was time for a pet. Now, don't go getting too excited and think cute, adorable puppy! UM No! I'm not that mad. Paul and I are not very big pet people so a dog or cat is out, plus, in our defense, we rent so its not really allowed unless you've paid the pet bond (which is $100 for anyone interested).
I then had a think about my pet criteria and they are as follows in no particular order.
1) It must be relatively maintenance free since I will be the sucker responsible for that department.
2) It must look nice.
3) Low cost.
Ok, that narrows things down to about 1 pet - a fish!
Awww, how cute and cuddly - I bet thats what you're thinking!
Well not really but Maddy and Gethin were pretty keen on the whole "pet fish" idea when I put it to them this morning and suggested a field trip to the pet shop. So off we went to the nearest "Better pets and gardens" and put forward the criteria to the fish lady!
She helped me choose a nice-looking, small, hassle-free glass tank and 3 (one for each child) little fishies and Bob's your uncle, we have PETS!
Maddy insisted on personally, holding the bag of Guppy's in the car, which was rather exciting as she gave them a good few shake ups and constantly reassured them that they were not going to die!

Once we had made it safely home without any major incidents she then very proudly carried the 2 bags inside the house where she proceeded to drop the bag with the Siamese Fighter on the floor with a very loud thud! I quickly rescued him from any further harm and placed him safely on the counter. He looked rather stunned and sat very still at the bottom of his bag - while I contemplated whether he would actually make it to the tank alive.
Fear not - he survived without further incident! And we can now lay claim to being pet owners!

I would take some pictures of the whole tank if I could find the key for the filing cabinet which my secretary in training (aka Gethin) has lost. The camera is not in the filing cabinet but the charger for it is! I think we shall be breaking the lock very shortly as we begin to need more and more items from the said cabinet.
And so, on that merry note, I shall bid you farewell!

Birthday Bazaar!
In a space of two weeks we have 3 family birthdays! I used to love my Birthday month - all alone in May with no one to share it with until .........
I managed to produced two offspring within 2 weeks of that day! They've stolen my thunder - in a nice way!
Gethin had his 2nd birthday on the 22nd of April and Ross is really snapping on my birthday heels with his special day (7 years old) being today (the day before mine)! We're trying to keep Birthdays rather low key this year by only having small parties. Gethin had an afternoon tea party and Ross is having a small movies and Mc Donalds party on Friday!

My birthday - well by the time we get there, I'm just so relieved by then that I've survived the other two that I'm happy for a very low key, relaxed day! Not too low key, darling Paul! I also like to be spoilt with nice pressies!
I've been meaning to share some photos of our new family activity (cycling) for awhile now but its a little tricky getting a photo of all of us cycling down the road while I'm actually trying to ride myself so you'll have to make do with some shots Paul took of us before we left one day. We really enjoy taking a leisurely cycle around our suburbs and parks on the weekends!
